KUNCI invites you to a talk with our Exchange Room guest, Dylan Martorell. In the open discussion, he will will share some of his experiences in translating his works through material terms, and how he positioned his works with regard to current state of production and social relations. For some years now, especially after his first encounter with Yogyakarta’s art-scene during the South Project gathering in the city, Martorell has been exploring the idea of musical diaspora and has continued to create channels of improvisation and collaboration using nomadic structure and recycled components in his live projects.

For the 2011 Jakarta Biennale, Martorell is currently developing a series of mobile musical sculptures that also functions as portable performance venues. “I am specifically drawn”, Martorell said, “to the ways in which music travels through space and is affected by changes in geography, materials, culture and climate to become an agent for cross cultural reciprocation.”

Dylan Martorell is an artist based in Melbourne, Australia. He has participated in several exhibitions in Australia, Japan and beyond. Since 1998, Martorell has played in the music duo Snawklor, with artist and musician, Nathan Gray. He has been a member of the music and performance troupe Higod people since 2005 He also performs as a solo musician travelling to Vietnam, Mexico, and Indonesia.
